What Is the Webster Technique?

Pregnancy creates a lot of change in the body over a short amount of time. As baby grows, the pelvis, muscles, ligaments, posture, and nervous system all have to continuously adapt. For many women, that can show up as hip tension, low back discomfort, pelvic pressure, or difficulty getting comfortable as pregnancy progresses.
One technique we use at Alpha Back Chiropractic to support pregnant patients is called the Webster Technique.
The Webster Technique is prenatal-specific chiropractic technique designed to help improve balance and reduce tension in the pelvis and surrounding muscles and ligaments during pregnancy. The goal is not to "turn" babies or force movement. Instead, the focus is on creating a more balanced environment for both mom and baby.
What Does the Webster Technique Focus On?
The pelvis plays a huge role during pregnancy. When muscles and ligaments around the pelvis become tight or imbalanced, it can create more tension and stress throughout the body.
One area commonly addressed during the Webster Technique is the sacrotuberous ligament, a ligament connected to the pelvis that can hold tension during pregnancy as the body changes and adapts. The technique uses gentle chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work to help restore balance and support better movement and comfort.
Why Do Pregnant Women Seek Chiropractic Care?
Every pregnancy experience is different, but many women seek chiropractic care to help:
Low back discomfort
Hip tension
Pelvic pressure
Round ligament discomfort
Changes in posture and movement
Feeling more balanced and supported as their body changes
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is also about supporting the nervous system. Your nervous system coordinates movement, posture, muscle tension, and adaption throughout the body. When the body is moving and functioning better, many patients report feeling more comfortable and more connected to their body during pregnancy.
Dr. Liz's Webster Certification
Dr. Liz has completed additional Webster certification training, which focuses specifically on caring for pregnant women and babies. This additional training allows her to better understand the unique physical changes that happen throughout pregnancy and how to safely support patients during that process.
